This site claims the obverse will be revealed on October 11 (the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 7) at the National Air and Space Museum. Quote: On Thursday, Oct. 11, the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 7, the museum will host officials from the U.S. Mint to reveal the obverse, or "heads-side," design for the Mint's Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemorative coins to be issued in January. Following the direction of Congress, the Mint held a contest to design the face of the 2019 curved coin, which will be struck in gold, silver and clad metal.
Proceeds from the coins will benefit the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, the Astronauts Memorial Foundation and the Smithsonian — the latter to support the National Air and Space Museum's "Destination Moon" gallery opening in 2022. Edit to add: The design of the obverse side is the one selected from public submissions. The choices are shown here, and we discussed them here.

Thanks, Alpha! After the (IMO) somewhat lackluster* 2018 commemorative offerings, I'm really getting psyched up for this one.
*I still bought them; they just were not my favorites.

That article was just posted yesterday, so good timing to have asked the question now!
I had almost forgotten about this one. I'll definitely be enticed if they pick the design I would have selected (the footprint). Otherwise, we'll see...

Quote: Otherwise, we'll see... I hear ya, Alpha. My initial gut is that I'm all in on this one. Clad, silver, gold. Legislation states there will be a convex 3" silver 5-oz puck as well! I may even have to sell my soul to the devil and buy both proof and unc gold. *shudder*

I am actually starting to get a little bit excited. Still not really happy about he curve, but if they come in a sweet OGP I can live with it.

jbuck, I was not overly excited about the convex Baseball HOF coins either, but those turned out nicely. I am *REALLY* curious to see what a 3" convex coin will look like in hand.

Gonna throw my Lego Saturn V next to these coins when they're out. That's right. Lego. Saturn. V.

I hope the Millennium Falcon you're talking about is the biggest most awesomest set that Lego has ever put out at 7,500+ pieces...

That bad boy looks like it could easily make the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs or less.
Whose is the adorable little hand?

It is a great time! We have built countless sets. Most are his to do with as he wishes and more than a few have evolved into some very interesting works of art. I have just a few that are mine, this is one of them. Luckily I have not resorted to the Kragle to protect them.
