I'm don't usually go against the grain, with what others see, and admit I see similar with current images.
That sad said I'm unable to enlarge with out loosing detail(s). Some of the devices maybe reduced by die abrasion in my opinion. Some seem thinner against other examples.
Clear close up of STATES, AMER and the initials before I jump all in. Thanks, Doug.

Bunches of money., and I believe this one clears Mr. Crawford's name. He found one years ago and said he was robbed. Only few people believed him.

Can you take a pic of it in front of a mirror so we can see the date and AMERICA at the same time?

Quote: Bunches of money., and I believe this one clears Mr. Crawford's name. He found one years ago and said he was robbed. Only few people believed him. I believe Crawford claimed to have found a 96-D WAM. I can't understand how a WAM could be struck in Denver in 1998. They were making their own dies from a master hub supplied by Philadelphia. This die was hubbed from a proof master hub. There should only be one of those and it was in Philadelphia. If the proof master hub had been shipped to Denver, Philadelphia wouldn't have had it available to make the proof dies for San Francisco. Also all of the dies made in Denver would have been WAM's. I suppose they MIGHT have shipped it to Denver, discovered it almost immediately, and gotten it back before they had made more than a couple dies. If so they would have scrapped the Master die, working hubs and any working dies made, and they missed one. That MIGHT be possible, but I would think highly unlikely.

Before congrats are due, I would like to see as CoinMasters suggested. Pix against mirror to see both sides simultaneously. Will be only way to rightfully confirm the "assumptions" or prove the claim false. On something like this it is the OP who must prove his case. Everado, sorry dude, don't buy it, would like to see myself proven wrong here, so I challenge you to the test. My problems are 1) rims are sized different, 98 rims are generally thinner, both sides, 2) color(tone) is distinctly different, shouldn't be such a disparity between them, although could just be pix.

Thanks Conder101 for correcting the year for me. 96 indeed. There are two sides to the story. I'm not qualified to debate this one for either side. All I can say is Mr. Crawford was a highly respected Numismatist, in a highly competitive profession. He said he had one, and was robbed in the parking lot at the coin show. I have no reason to disbelieve the man.

Crazyb0, I'm falling on the side of a believer here only because of the fact that he originally posted this coin questioning doubling on the obverse. He missed the WAM completely, which was pointed out to him by rocktowngal. Hopefully we'll get an update us on this.

I cannot see any possible way for this to be a Denver Mint Wide AM- there were no proof hubs or master dies on hand to have the possibility to create a Wide AM die design

This coin would definitely benefit from inspection by a die variety expert (which I'm not). I suggest James Wiles, who's done quite a bit of work in the area of CAMs and WAMs.
Error coin writer and researcher.
