No..that was another I found with just the letter "G"...this penny is way different. It has a ruler and a compas and a star on it..with G on the front and OES on the back. It's much more ornate.

Wonder why they didn't choose to do this to a " Wheat penny" ?....The Lincoln Memorial I suppose.....Masons probably designed that too......I heard they designed the "grid" of steets and blocks in D.C. amongst many other things there !..

Eaglefoot, I can't answer your question, but I think they might have used them for a "counter-sign" They are good at that sort of thing. The one I posted indicates that a press with a lot more "tonnage" than the ones used for minting the coin. It is almost thru the whole bust area, and that is about the thckest part. Dick

Just FYI, OES stands for the Order of the Eastern Star, which is the sister organisation to the Masons.

The design is the square and compasses the G alludes to God and has a deeper meaning as well. The back OES is Order of the Eastern Star. Which is another mason like fraternity but is also open to women as well as men. The star to which the letter is around represents the Eastern Star. Hope this helps. And You may have all ready been told this in which case I apologize.
