I've been looking forward to writing this post for over 2 years. I've watched others post their accomplishments over over the years and couldn't wait to post mine. It's kind of silly I suppose, but only fellow collectors understand the challenge so I hope you don't mind me sharing this accomplishment. With a registered package from Roma Numismatics in my hands, I have finally completed the 12 Caesars challenge taken on after reading Suetonius's work. Note that I went for silver except for Caligula and Claudius which were simply out of my range and would have doubled the cost of the set. Here are some facts of the set: Total cost: Just under $2k. Last Caesar? Otho (of course. It's always Otho, isn't it?) Where acquired? Local dealer: 2. ebay: 2. Vcoins dealers: 3. Auction houses: 5 (4 EU, 1 US) Time taken: 32 months Most expensive: Julius Caesar $339 from Roma Numismatics. Least expensive: Domitian $42.85 ( ebay) Favorite Coin: Judaea Capta - I love Israel and just visited the country last month. This coin means a lot to me personally, representing the beginning of a 2000 year struggle that ended in 1948 with the creation of the state of Israel. Close 2nd? The Claudius As. I love the portrait and the patina. Edited by jskirwin 06/07/2017 6:22 pm

Great set! You made great choices. My favourite is the Nero. Congratulations on a milestone accomplishment. I remember how satisfying it felt to complete mine.

Super collection! I'm still missing JC, Vitellius and Otho for mine, so it'll be a while before I'm in the club.
Was that Galba from Lanz, perchance? I recall almost bidding on a nearly identical coin a few months back, but decided not to.
My favorites are a toss up between the elephant denarius, the Nero, and the Judaea Capta.

Fulfilling a noble ambition. I'm working on a silver set too, and it's encouraging to see you other guys reach your goals. I must confess, I can't wait to get the last piece for my set.
Congrats.

Nice, well done.
What's next, do you plan to move your way into the next set of emperors?

Quote: What's next, do you plan to move your way into the next set of emperors? That's a good question. My broader collection contains mostly imperial silver, which takes it through the mid-3rd century after which debasement pretty much drove silver out of the economy. I am especially keen on the Severans, and would like to nab a Pertinax or Pescinnius Niger - but both those guys are big $$$. Truth is I've plucked all the low hanging fruit when it comes to silver. My wife has suggested Republican silver, but at this point I honestly don't know.
