This weekend I was visiting a friend. His nephew works at a small bank as a teller. He had a customer cash is a bunch on coins. Nothing unusual so far. One of those coins was a Morgan in great condition. He immediately bought the Morgan from the drawer. This alone would be a great find...a Morgan for $1.00 cost. This is no ordinary Morgan, it is an 1889 CC in AU-58 to MS-60 condition. It may grade higher as I always seem to grade low. The key date and mint of Morgans for $1.

I will see if I can get photos to post. Why can't I ever find these deals.

I just had to share this story. This 21 year old teller is aware that this is a one in a billion chance.

This is not just a story, I have held and checked the coin. I want to check for markers to see if it is counterfeit. If I can get photos I will post them on this thread.

Very interesting.

Let's analyze the coin with pictures. Either someone hit the jackpot or there is fair amount of possibility that it might be a counterfeit. There are known counterfeits for this date.

So, a friend has a nephew who reports getting a key-date Morgan for a dollar, and you know the age of the teller? Time for snopes.com!

Many counterfeits are made of Silver so even if this is one, still worth more than $1.

I have known this "Friend" and his nephew for a long time. I just do not want to say too much about who they are. My friend runs a business where I frequently go.

I plan to bring what I need this weekend when I go back and see if I can get better info to help him out.
