Comparing to the previous two coins, I see no design differences other than selective gold plating on the second and the red enamel on the third. Of course there are the same slight differences that we saw with the red 150 SD from the proof SD set.... Edited to add image: One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong.... Quote: It is disappointing, however, it is simply "marketing and selling 101". Nothing wrong with that. Sure, but tell that to O'Pee-Chee or Upper Deck.

5oz 90th Anniversary of the Peace Tower Clock sold out... Nice coin, but didn't see that rush coming.

When there is such a fast sell out that usually mean the Peace Tower Clock is a commissioned coin. Probably by Steve Bromberg.

what is the significance of the time 10:08?
Asked Goggle: The answer is simple: 10:08 is the time at which a 12-hour digital display will have the maximum number of digit "segments" turned on, helping ensure the display is working correctly
LOL goggle was NO help

@falcon I did purchase the clock coin as well as the three ounce maple leaf coin. I could not resist. Both a first for RCM. I did find on google that most watches and clocks are positioned at 10:10 for the best viewing of the make or the name of the manufacturer. There are so many stories about this. Abraham Lincoln apparently shot at 10:10 and many more stories which include JFK. Basically it is just marketing and a standard practice. I don't really know but I got this info from google in just a few minutes and there is so much more to read about.

Yes 10 past 10 makes sense but this coin reads 8 past 10 ...

@Falcon
I agree that the handle is at :08 but directly underneath there is a cog with a white dot that is pointing to :10.
Also Canada can be clearly seen in the centre just as I read on google why clock makers place the handles at 10:10.

Thanks for the photo illustration CC. I'd forgot about the plain silver version of the 150 SD. Yes indeed, the two red 150s are much the sane but different. I hope issuing multiple varieties of the same design isn't going to become a future RCM trend because it makes for a repetitive and uninspiring collection. I'll give them a pass this year but if this is to become the new normal, I may decide that Canada's 150th will serve as an appropriate conclusion of my SD obsession.

Quote: I did find on google that most watches and clocks are positioned at 10:10 for the best viewing of the make or the name of the manufacturer. I read, and it sounds reasonable, that most of the presentations-reveals start at 9:30-10:00 AM, hence the watches / mobiles "show" the closest possible time.

Anyone else thinking the clock tower coin will be a dud like the other Bromberg 5oz. coins? He must have his hand in on this one I'm thinking (quick sell out at RCM) and the 90th anniversary really isn't significant. I did buy it because it's unique and I think will look great in hand but the 5oz. history isn't exactly stellar when it comes to holding their value.

I agree the 10 and 2 hand positions are likely just esthetics. They probably used just 10:08 because at 10:10, the big hand would obscure the Roman numeral II. Unlike the Halifax explosion gold coin, there is probably no hidden meaning. As for commissioned or not...seems very likely. Has there been a recent 5oz that was not from Bromberg? I can't think of one lately. On the silver dollars, I'd just reiterate that the mintage was cut in half compared to the first 150 special edition issued. Both the first and the second (from the proof set) currently sell at a premium. ebay sold prices range between $75-135. Colonial Acres offers the first coin for $85 (issue was 60) and the gold plated version for $155 but they are sold out. Even the complete proof set regularly sells for more than issue and is hard to find. All that is to say, the latest coin with red enamel will go quickly IMO. Oddly, the 4th 150 red painted step-child seems to be available at issue just about everywhere.

I remember it from when I was a kid (60's and 70's). The most popular watch ever advertised was Timex. The time on almost every ad for a Timex watch was 10 to 2 (1:50) for those born without an analog mind. The position of the 'hands' framed the name Timex for all to see.

Would anyone know when the 3 oz. "Whispering Maple Leaves" will become available for the general public? Or maybe more importantly, is there a good chance it will available for non-MC purchase?

@quasarito My guess is you should be able to see it after three days. Personally I don't like the coin's design. If anyone wants to see how this coin looks like, search "Whispering Maple Leaves" on ebay.
