Not sure what to call this or exactly what causes it so asking the experts. The cent weighs 3.1 so normal, no DDs to get excited about. What caught my attention when I picked it up was the feeling of ridging around the rim.

Both OBV and REV have an extra rim going all the way around, like the die was too small for the planchet.

Thoughts?

Maybe wrong, but seems the planchets proto rim did not fully expand into the dies design rim. Seem to be a decent strike, but pressure released prior to completion.

Does not seem to be out of round, but check the edge just in case. Wide collar issues can alter the design rim or create what looks like a false rim. Don't think that happened here though. Thanks, Doug.

Adding pending the strike pressure it's pretty common to see the proto rim showing partial or fully around the edge. If its 19mm in diameter makes it with in proper tolerance. If it exceeds 19mm, then another story.
