I recently received my first Locomotives Across Canada coin. It's a beautiful coin that I like very much.
However, I noticed a small spot over gold plating on the obverse side.
The spot is not very visible. In the photo below, you don't see it very much:
However, in the following photo took by a friend, you clearly see the spot:
I'm new to coins. And I don't know if this kind of spot (defect?) happens often. If I ask the Mint for a replacement, what's the chance of the replacement being worse?
if you magnify every coin to that degree you will find many faults.. if you can see the blemish with the naked eye, I would recommend replacing it. if you are using magnification to check your coins, you will probably never find a perfect coin..
I can see the blemish with the naked eye, only at certain angles. I think the blemish was caused by the missing gold plating, revealing the silver underneath.
The second photo was taken with an iPhone 6 plus camera, which gives more details. But I don't think the camera magnified the coin significantly.
