What sort of help do you need to identify these coins? Can you make out (read) the inscriptions? Both are coins of Gordian III. The coin on the left is a denarius; that on the right is an antoninianus. An antoninianus for an emperor, or other male in the Imperial household, is distinguished by having a radiate crown on the obverse figure. The denarius usually had the central male figure "bare headed" or else "laureate" but never "radiate."

Do you need help with the reverses?

As for authenticity, both look fine from what I can see. They are typical of what one sees for this emperor. They are well preserved, but common enough that they should not have been very expensive.

The reverse of the denarius bears the inscription "IOVIS STATOR" which means "Jupiter/Jove standing." That tells you who the figure is, but little else. But take note of that thunderbolt he is holding in his left hand, for that is a hallmark detail for the high god of the Roman pantheon. When you see that emblem anywhere, Jove is somehow involved.

As for the antoninianus, you will have to help me a bit. The tail end of the inscription reads "REDUX" but I cannot quite make out what comes before that because of the bit of encrustation. What are the missing letters?

Edit: I just realized it is FORTUNA. The coin celebrates the return of Fortune (often equated with Lady Luck).

Nice grade common material is best acquired in larger groups of 10 to 50 coins per batch. Bigger is better. In my limited market experience for common individual pieces 30 EUR would be a great price for the two, and still not bad for them individually. Others may wish to comment. I tend to acquire material like this in larger groups so my judgement may be a bit off for individual purchase prices.

Hi stonewall,

Left hand coin I think is...

Gordian III Denarius. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped & cuirassed ibust right / IOVIS STATOR, Jupiter standing front, head right, holding thunderbolt & scepter. RIC 112.

Right hand coin I think is...

Gordian III AR Antoninianus. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, radiate draped bust right / FORTVNA REDUX, Fortuna seated left with prow and cornucopia. RIC 210.

Saludos Paul

I think that eh Antoninianus has a "Radiate, cuirassed bust right seen from the rear" rather than a draped bust and is the output of Antioch.

Like my RIC 210 below:-
