In a nutshell:

Dishonesty at its best and from a crown corporation.

No respect for their high tiered members.

The offer is only being given to people to entice them to spend 300.00 to get an elegant wooden box before the end of June 30th to get to a higher level.

This is no joke!! Email or call your reps to voice your dissatisfaction with their deceptive practices!

I agree.
But what I think: if you MC of any tier or non MC at all, call RCM (general CSR or your Rep) and speak about this promo.

I for 90% sure, if you will spend right now with the rep CAD 300 - you will get the case.
This "freebie" stuff works everywhere same way - mention it, and you will get it, and without asking - will not get it
Very awkward, but this the way.

@silveroid

I wrote a letter and my rep said he passed it on. No word yet. I have spent way more than 300.00. What is happening is that there are no offers for high tiered members lately. Their marketing department is being very deceptive. There was the vault promotion a while ago and I never received notification of this either. The wooden case in this new offer, which ends June 30th, is being peddled to the low tiers only to entice to become silver or gold. Makes me want to cancel everything!!

It really is sad. A good customer that you are and no promos just like myself. The best thing to do is bombard all reps with emails or phone calls especially on days when they are trying to sell their new products.

Did not get the promo either. Pretty disappointed. The RCM should reward members who spend a long of money on coins. What are the benefits of being a high tier MC member? Free shipping? Well you could get that at many dealers. Advance notice? You get that too at some dealers.

Access to exclusive MC coins? Besides the Voyageur dollar, all other MC Exclusives have been a dud.

So why even bother spending at RCM, just buy elsewhere. Save the PST too if you live in BC.
Rest in Peace

30 Plus years with Bell Canada. Did I ever 'qualify' for those 6 months of 50% off my phone bill? Nope - never. Joe blow who has never been a Bell Canada customer gets 50% off, free phone, multiple line installs...etc, etc...That's sort of the Canadian way - the masses usually will continue to pay to the same supplier - it's too much of a challenge to quit, and go somewhere else.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any deception or dishonesty in this offer from the RCM. Not every incentive the RCM offers has to be given to every one of its customers - businesses across the world offer different deals to separate segments of their customer base in the hope that it will trigger additional spending. That is all that is going on here - they're trying to get additional sales from a particular segment of their customer list. There is nothing wrong or deceptive with the practice.

No respect for their high tiered members.

High-tiered members get first access to each month's releases, have opportunities to buy certain coins that others do not and have a personal representative that can assist them with making sure they get the coins they most want. They also accumulate "rewards" on their purchases that range from 1% to 2% depending on level. Seems like a fair bit of "respect" from where I sit. The RCM could do more, of course, but it's not like they are mistreating their best customers.

I am not one of the RCM's high-tiered members (and never will be). I did receive the offer for the complimentary case. It was nice to have the opportunity, but as I've said here on CCF for years - I am not enticed to buy coins because of packaging. I've never bought a newly-released RCM coin because of its package, nor have I ever not bought a coin because it didn't come in a fancy package.

We all make our own decisions about how and what we collect and no one collector's approach is better or more correct than another's. I think it was a positive for the RCM to offer the free case to its lower-tier members as a purchase incentive - I hope it works for them.

" RCM offers free case with $300.00 purchase...but only to their low tiers"
I'm curious as to what MC levels received the offer. How high up did it go?
I received the offer in the mail and I was Platinum. I was just a bit shy of Platinum Plus and the purchase for this put me over.

I assume that I was given this offer because I was so close to the next MC level, and it would entice me to not think and just BUY NOW.

I doubt I'll ever the case as the fine print in the offer stated "Collector cases subject to availability." If it is the same case I got for free last time, item number 145978, it is shown as "awaiting stock" and "1 per household". Since I already received one last time, they have a way out of giving me another one.

One can spend 30,000.00 annually with the RCM = 2% is a 600.00 redemption "possibility" since they may not count certain commemoratives, etc....

One can spend 500. to 1000.00 annually and get a free wooden case worth $129.00.

So....which customer would you want to have and retain? I now buy more from other dealers because they are more grateful and reward me with better offers. RCM is losing my business and I am not alone in this at all. Which hot coins have there been lately? Seriously.....take a look! RCM coins depreciate faster than any other mint's coins.

All one has to do to get an advance notice is come to this sight or the other forum and call up RCM and place an order. Trust me...I have worked for corporations. There has to be an incentive for each level of expenditure when a promotion is rolled out and not just for the few tiers who they believe might be enticed to buy more. And here you say that this offer of a wooden box does not entice you to buy from RCM. So, you don't like fancy packaging and whatever else from the RCM; yet you are so compelled to put me in my place. Well my nose is out of joint right about now with being left out of any promotion all year long.

It is not just about the wooden box, it is about respect and gratefulness and not just plain greed on RCM's part when one has passed the platinum prestige status a long time ago before june 30, 2017.

These are the values that RCM quotes about how they run their business: HONESTY, RESPECT, PRIDE AND PASSION. I certainly am beginning to believe that I do not arouse any passion in them with my big expenditures.

Oh yes....I am sure this incentive will work quite well for them but at the expense of what and who? I get advance notices from other dealers right after RCM's release. Guess who will now be getting most of my business? It certainly will not be the RCM in this coming year. Maybe then they will send me promotions to buy after they lose my big expenditures!! Or maybe I just won't be missed at all since they are getting all these new "value" buyers at "spend 300.00 and get a wooden case" clients. Good for them.

RCM is not losing business when customers buy from dealers because NCLT is minted and sold by them, regardless if you buy it directly or a dealer buys it and then sells it to you. It probably costs RCM less to sell to dealers at a discount than sell directly considering expenses incurred including rep commission plus individual order accounting, handling and shipping costs. So just my opinion, but in moving business to a dealer, I don't think RCM has any concern whatsoever as long as those same customers continue to buy NCLT.

The only way to teach them a lesson would be to quit buying Canadian coins.

I'm in the same boat here... purchasing more from dealers, as I can get better service and better pricing. Notice the order of these two attributes above - service, then price.

It's becoming problematic when my RCM rep thinks it's too much work to email a PDF confirmation of orders placed through his desk.

Quote from RCM rep e-mail this week: "The PDF confirmation was actually phased out by many reps several months ago, if not a year ago."

If we boil this statement down, it appears my RCM rep doesn't have time for me anymore... despite being a Platinum Prestige member. I'm not high maintenance, by any means - I don't call my rep on his personal cell phone, I don't make purchases and return them when the market turns against "flippers", and I rarely bug him with inquiries.

The RCM is making it so much easier to turn to online ordering (through their site), or better yet, to head to our local dealers for what we're looking for. Kinda sad.

Because of this fact, my purchases are down by at least 30% this year. Maybe that's why my Rep doesn't have time for PDF confirmations?!

I get the same benefits from CC&C. I get advance notice from them. Sometimes just a few hours after my RCM. I can have access to a rep if I want one.
CC&C also have a point reward system that is more generous than the RCM. At the end of the year I get a gift certificate to be used to future purchase. Also a free Charlton coin catalogue per year if you in the higher tiers.

And what coin opportunities you talking about. Only the 1st Renewed Voyageur was hard to get. All the rest are duds that you could get elsewhere. As for the rest of the coins, there is not a single coin the past 2 or 3 years that could not have been gotten elsewhere. Especially those commissioned coins that are "sold out" at the RCM.

If everyone just stopped buying the RCM NCLT for even six month I can guarantee their attitudes and marketing strategies would change.

@Wildflower

If what you say is fact then maybe they should just stop selling direct to the public if it is all so problematic with free shipping and handling, accounting, rep commissions and so on when dealing with individual buyers like me. It must be topsy turvy, with all their departments, when it comes to a promotion offering "a free wooden case" with a purchase of $300.00 before the end of June 30th, 2017. Free shipping and handling for that FREE wooden box and applying it to their books must take a lot of effort and extra cost.They even offer free shipping on some of their small $19.95 items for Canada 150,

Canada Post offers free shipping over 25.00.

Dealers offer free shipping to VIP clients plus greater credits, offers and service with a big "Thank you" attached to it.

Just my opinion: RCM speaks with a forked tongue when it comes to their corporate values to which they claim to adhere to and I no longer believe them.

They need a major overhaul in their marketing department and should be reading in depth these forums to feel the true pulse of what the coin community is saying about their practices!

@MoneyPenney

@darryldarryl @jackalope
Yes....maybe that is what is needed, for all of us to stop buying their NCLT.
