This might be a weird place to put this but I don't know where else, except maybe main coin forum? Anyways.
I wanted to buy a round 50c coin, then dad said he might have some in his dads collection. He said I could have to collection, if I stored them properly. But he showed me this collection out of nowhere, it has pre-decimal coins from the 50s onward and a few 1910s. He also had what he called a 'mint' condition pack of 1966 decimal and pre-decimal packs in the plastic sheets you bought from smewhere. He also had some newish ones.
In that pack of 1966s I got my round 50c piece :)
Oh and he gave me all of his 1 and 2c peices, theres at least 200 of each in the tin box.
Correction about the pennys they are from the 1910s onwards, didn't have a proper look.
There was also a 1969 Jamaican 1 cent.
Oh he also said I could have this old stopwatch, You know those pocket ones.

Don't discount those other 1966 coins either. They are ALL becoming scarce in uncirculated condition.

Yeh justabeginner lol unlucky, yeh I wont discount the other ones, I just like the round 50c cause it looks different.
Btw the pennys in the collection start from the 1910s, I didn't have a proper look before I posted.

Firstly, make sure they are Australian pennies. "Commonwealth of Australia" or a kangaroo will be on the other side to the king/queen.
1925, 1930, 1946 are the ones worth big $. There are other varieties also. Even common dates can be worth lots of $ if they are very well preserved, but on average they are only worth a dollar or 2. It is rare to have early dates in top grades.

If you are seriously looking at collecting, I recommend you get a copy of Greg McDonalds Australian Coin and Banknotes, 15th edition. This and the Rennicks guide are the "bibles" of Australian coins. Has all the mintage figures, values and some useful information. Costs about $30 from any coin dealer, maybe the post office and maybe a book store.
Or you can visit bigfellas store on line.
Coins to look out for are the King of Aussie coins, the 1930 penny. Also 1920 no dots, 1925 and 1946.
There are more of course, but these are the keys
And in my opinion, any pre-decimal coin in higher grades is worth having, regardless of rarity.
