Looks like a dug coin, an awful lot of corrosion...is it steel?

Quote: .is it steel? Steel coated with nickel and chrome plated. Cold be missing the plating but I agree it looks like a dug coin.

I don't think chrome would ruse that bad but I heard that the ones that weren't chromed were subject to a lot of rust

the 1944 coin you have may never been nickel plated or chromed. I hope the experts here can explain the difference. for the difference in value . I would like to understand. I am purchasing a large nickel collection. there is lots of these coins in that collection.

Maybe it's a super-rare 1944 Tombac that rusted, but I would bet on a regular 1944 chromed steel that had a very hard life in the salt and slush of a Montreal winter.
