To make a long story short, I periodically have to deal with a troublesome international seller on ebay who is often the only source of some very rare ancient coins. All of their auctions are "no reserve" listings starting at $0.99 + $3 shipping. Fair enough, because international shipping isn't cheap. I have seen the same coins "won" then relisted time and time again. Often, I will be outbid, and then the bid will get retracted. It's annoying, but I get the deal I wanted more often than not. What is annoying is that the last order I placed was for about 10 items. I fully expected $8-$10 to cover the extra weight (these are all small coins and won't require extra packaging). Shipping total was well over $17! That isn't enough to drive me to cancel the order (again, rare coins won for less than 1/3 of the Vcoins price, even with outrageous shipping). I also don't want to burn bridges because their sloppy descriptions sometimes mask $50-100 coins from my competition. How would you handle the situation? Edited by Finn235 07/03/2017 10:54 am

$17 is less than $3 X 10 items and you're happy with the prices paid for the items won so.... I would pay.

IMO I find Vcoins overpriced to begin with. And if this seller is your source for rare ancients I'd just pay now and ask for a combined invoice for your purchases in the future. Then you can see the S&H charge and can ask about it before you pay.

I sent a message once to a French-based ebay retailer because he was charging more for postage than the coin was worth. I calculated what I considered to be a fair rate and told him I would be prepared to pay that, and he reduced the postage charge for me. I don't think he had many UK clients and he probably asked too much just to be on the safe side.

sounds to me like he can post the items at 99 cents because he (or she) has a shill bidder operation to run the bid up and if no one takes the bait the coin is just relisted after being "won"

I personally would just pay it this time. But if the same situation happened in the future I would request a combined shipping invoice and if it is more than you want to pay bring it to their attention. Especially if you are getting some higher $ coins from his listings.

Did the seller SAY they would combine shipping?
Otherwise, you bid knowing s/h was $3 a coin, were given a discount and you are whining about it.
Some people would complain if they were hung with a new rope...
