CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG Rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right CONSTANTINIANA DAFNE Victory seated left on cippus with palm branch in each hand; trophy in background, captive seated before her; officina letter Z (6th) in left field. Mintmark CONS RIC VII 35; Sear 16191.
Among the first issues of the newly opened Constantinople Mint, these coins are said to honor a fort that defended the new capital during its construction.
This is one of the more common varieties of this scarcer type. A shame about the corrosion, this would have been a stunning coin if better preserved.
