So my normal dump credit union which I hold multiple accounts and have a great relationship with has a donation box. While I was waiting to cash out I spotted what looked to be a token of sort at first glance. As I got closer what appeared to be a token was a Peace dollar along with several Ikes. I asked the teller if she could swap out the dollar coins for dollar bills and said she does not have the key till the manager came to work which was today July 5th. I called her first thing in the morning and asked if I could swap out the dollar coins for dollar bills, she said sure come in and we will help you out. BAM! I showed up swapped out the coins which was 15 dollar coins 14 Ikes and this beauty. Ended up giving a 5 dollar donation for it. $20 for 14 Ikes and a Peace dollar... Not a bad deal at all.

That's certainly a great deal! What years were the Ikes? I now find myself scanning donation boxes frequently.

Cool find! Few people can say they found one of those in the wild in the last 40ish years.

Wow! I would never expect for someone to find one of those in circulation! Even Ikes are very rare to find in circulation, but a Peace dollar! Congratulations!

I wonder if the donator knew what they were doing.

Quote: I wonder if the donator knew what they were doing. Either they donated it thinking it was just a dollar or they donated it thinking they were giving them more than a dollar. If the latter, I feel this is the wrong way to do it. Not only are they are assuming someone will recognize its value, but that they will do the right thing (as carloscoria did here). Too many variables for me. I feel the same way about people who put gold coins in donation kettles at Christmastime.

I always see Eisenhower dollars in the donation boxes. I was told by the tellers that they would put Eisenhowers or coins that are in the coin machine box in donation boxes. So it could have been a coin the Counter kept. Months earlier when she was changing out the bags I notices tokens in there and she gave them to me and one was a 1 oz Silver round.

The service station/convenience store near me used to drop the Ikes, SBA's and CWR's in it. I don't know if they swapped out more conventional money for them or not. I would offer to buy the Ikes and CWR's when I saw them and sometimes they would allow it and other times not depending on the clerk. Recently however I came to learn the new manager is a coin collector and snags the good stuff. I don't blame him but it makes me jealous...
