Hey all, I was just wondering if the 1966 Dollar I bought from my friend is small or large. I have 3 of those 1966 but trying to figure if any of them are Large or Small beads. I heard Small ones are worth a bit and trying to figure out if I have any of those. I only have one picture of those coins not sure if they are small or large. The pic is pretty crappy sorry about quality.

The third one is a Large Bead but it looks to me like the first one is a Small Bead. Nice buy.

Oh nice, I felt like the first one has smaller beads compared to the others, but wasn't too sure about I's location and A's I bought all 3 for $62 CAD. So I guess those three are worth $1000 if one of them comes out to be Small bead as you said?

They all look like large beads to me. Gonna need better pics to convince me otherwise. None of the I's in REGINA point directly to a bead If you look above ELIZABETH there is not enough space between each bead to fully insert another.

I agree with DBM. Post photos of each coin individually, as large as possible.

I'll re-post with better pics when I receive my coins in next few days However, I do think JimmyD gave me right answer: as first coins definitely has more spaces between each bead First coins looks like it has more spaces compared to the other two I also do have some problem reading through the pics as the angle of camera wasn't facing 90 degree

Just count the beads on each coin to be sure. Die wear can change the spacing between the beads and alignment.

They came out to be 149 beads on all 3 of the coins However, I also checked on the certified Small Beads coin from internet but they also have 149 for both Small and Large beads So I guess they all have the same # of beads

I know that this topic has been discussed many times on many forums. I remember from more than a few years ago, someone went ahead and counted the beads on both types. It was 149 for the large beads and the mid 150's for the small. It may have been on the old CanadianCopperCoins site, on which I was the moderator. There is a supposed easy way to tell (by the bead number) when the alignment of the "I" in Regina can't accurately tell .. probably because of the angle of the camera and crooked lined drawn not down the center. Go through an archive search on some of the sites: Here's one: http://goccf.com/t/40222&whichpage=3

There will always be 149 beads large or small. I'm in the same boat as dbm but I can see why jimmy might think it's a small bead. The angle and the lighting make the beads look smaller in that particular picture but they don't seem to line up properly. You need nice clear pictures one for each coin, top down no angle to be sure.

All Large . This topic has been beaten to death on the forum in the past. You are NEVER , Never , EVER going find one in the wild. 485 or so the story goes ended up in a Mint bag of a thousand and miracle of miracles they all ended up with the same dealer back in the day. They are a back door job of the branch Mint office that was in Hull PQ back in the 1960s. Also a sure fire way to identify this anomaly ........take a 1965 Prooflike Small Beads Dollar out of a 1965 PL Set and compare the Obverse . The 1966 is one side PL and one side Business Strike.
