I was going through my pocket yesterday and came across this bill. After doing some research I believe it's an offset printing error. George Washington and the border from the front of the bill are clearly visible on the back. I've been looking all over the net for another example of this error for 2003 but can't find anything. Here's a scan...the original is much clearer than this picture. Any ideas on worth or where to take it to be appraised? Thanks!!

This phenomena occurs from excess of ink seeping through the fibers of the paper and being heavily broadcasted on the other side. That's why it's so aptly named heavy ink error. (also over-ink error or excessive ink error) This is an incredible example as the whole front is excessed, so definately hold onto it. Most 2003-A $1 have a heavy ink error on them, by looking on the reverse, you can see lines from washington's shoulder, but this has the whole front on the back making it a very good example.

If I could tell you a value, I would, but I'm not too sure. It definately has a premium, though.

Thank you for the reply Secret! It's amazing how much detail has remained on the reverse. I came across a website that had this example...

2003-A-Dollar-Error

This one looks very much like mine and was created due to a mis-fed sheet causing extra ink to be placed on the bed of the printing press. The next sheet then picked up the ink on the wrong side. So it was actually printed on the reverse rather than bleeding through. Do you think this could be a possibility as well?

I'd guess that that'd be more likely than a giant over-ink error.
