I'm looking at this 1799 dollar and can't figure out what this is. It's graded problem free by NGC.

Are you talking about the vertical line that goes through the wing and the letter M in unum? That is a old time pin scratch in my opinion.

That's a real nice looking reverse. That scratch wouldn't bother me considering the age and size of the coin and I'm one of the pickiest as far as that is concerned.

I 100 percent agree with chesterb, that looks like a scratch but I wouldn't be to bothered considering the coin it's on.

Agree old scratch of no consequence to the grade or the value of the coin.

Totally agree with old scratch as it is in the fields as well as going over the devices. BTW - that is a beautiful coin, well at least the obverse, for a 1799.

That thin scratch wouldn't detract enough to give it a thumbs down. I'm picky with Bust types but from this single photo, I'd grab it if the price was reasonable.
