I was just browsing the bay and came across this nickel. It is from 1938 but the D is above the Monticello.

One thing I like about coins is when designs over lap like in 1909 1916 1938.

I'm almost thinking about buying it to see what I'll get!

Unfortunately, I just bought a real 1938-D only minutes before seeing this topic. Oh well...

That's really weird . Why don't you contact the seller and ask if he sees anything odd about that Nickel ?

Not sure what is going on on the reverse. Lousy picture. The "D" doesn't look like a D as seen on the War Nickels so I don't think it is a switched image. I'm wondering about a counterstamped D.

I also think the seller simply has images mixed. Looks like it's the exact same reverse image from their listing of the 45-D: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1945-D-Jeff...AOSw5bFZYI-V

I agree. Could be an honest mistake...

I was thinking the same thing until I zoomed the image and rotated it. Now I am not sure...

The location of the staples on the 2X2 indicate 2 diff coins. Would have made a great fantasy piece.

Looks like the 45-D has some reverse die rotation.

Mistake by the seller. The staples give it away.

I did not even notice the magic staples that appear to have been applied on both sides.
