Hi All,

Recently I have been watching with interest
on T.V and youtube articles relating to gold
discovery, mining and detection etc.

This got me wondering what Gold is used for?
there are the obvious ones, Coinage, Jewellery
dentistry and probably electronics.

so what other uses does Gold have that I havent though of?

Just a little bit of info...

10. Gold is used in window glass and astronaut helmets to reflect infrared rays while allowing sunlight to pass through, and at the same time keeping it cool.

9. Gold is chemically liquified and injected into the muscles of thousands of rheumatoid arthritis victims in the U.S., and it is said that the treatment is successful in seven out of ten cases.

8. In every cubic mile of sea water there is 25 tons of gold! That's a total of about 10 billion tons of gold in the oceans; however, there's no known way to economically recover it.

7. Gold can be hammered into sheets so thin that a pile of them an inch high would contain more than 200,000 separate sheets.

6. A single ounce of gold can be drawn into a wire 60 miles long.

5. The largest gold nugget found in the U.S. weighed 195 pounds; it came from California.

4. Gold is so heavy that one cubic foot of it weighs half a ton.

3. A one-ounce gold nugget is more rare to find than a five-carat diamond.

2. All of the gold in the world could be compressed into an 18-yard cube, which is about 1/10 the mass of the Washington Monument.

1. Gold is said to be so rare that the world pours more steel in an hour than it has poured gold since time began.

Nope They have a aluminum foil with a coating on it There are or have been some very high end chocolate's that have been wrapped in gold leaf but not for mass market.
A book sometimes called a bible of real 23karat gold leaf contains 25 sheets depending on spot currently cost about $50. to $60.00 USD
You have to be careful when buying from Amazon or the net in general. It is better to buy from a gilding supplier than ebay or Amazon were you may get real gold leaf or the imitation gold leaf which is an alloy of brass.
There are aluminum leaf, copper, brass leaf and some colored leaf made of aluminum.
Edible Gold Leaf It is commonly used to add a feeling of elegance or luxury to a dish. The gold itself is odorless and tasteless and considered "biologically inert." meaning it passes through the digestive tract without being absorbed. It lends itself to many possible decoration pieces both sweet or savory.
Rest in Peace

Gold (73% IACS) is not that great of a conductor in comparison to copper (100% IACS) and even less against silver (105% IACS). However gold does not tarnish like copper and silver in their useable forms, which would increase it's resistance, which is bad for conductivity.

reminded me of Goldschläger "Goldschläger is a Swiss cinnamon schnapps (43.5% alcohol by volume or 87 proof; originally it was 53.5% alcohol or 107 proof),[1] a liqueur with very thin, yet visible flakes of gold floating in it."

Pharmaceuticals
Credited with curing or warding off everything from smallpox to measles, for centuries, the Chinese have used gold as a vaccine.
Gold was a common treatment for rheumatoid arthritis from the late 1920s until the 1990s. According to the JohnsHopkinsArthritisCenter, gold flakes were injected into muscles, into the veins and even given orally. Though gold could sometimes be an effective treatment, it is unclear exactly how it improves the patient's condition. New treatments with fewer side effects are now preferred.

One of the most exciting uses of gold in medicine is precision delivery of medication to fight cancer. Microscopic gold covered "medicine bullets" are fired at targeted cells then activated to release their load.
