Hi Everyone. New to the forum, and new to ancient coin collecting. I recently purchased a Timurid coin on ebay, stated to be a Tanka minted under Timur's son Shahrukh, in AH 828 [1424/1425]. Can anyone help me translate the inscriptions on this coin? I'm not even sure which side is the Observe/Reverse.

Any additional info on this coin that anyone can relate would also be greatly appreciated. Such as the city in which it was minted, or even any info about the currency system it belonged to in general. Thanks in advance :)

@pfrontalis, first welcome to CCF. Second, in addition to the thesis that @echizento mentioned above, you will find multiple posts here on CCF about most any numismatic subject, including coins of the Timurids. You can find them with the handy-dandy search bar in the upper left of your screen. Here is one of my favorites:

Thanks guys! :) I did a bit of research on a few different websites last night and I [mostly] have completed a picture of what is depicted on this coin.

The Obverse [bottom picture] shows a symbol of the first of the six Islamic kalima, basically meaning "There is no god but allah. Muhammed is the prophet of Allah". This is what is shown inside the square.

Surrounded the square [although hard to see on this coin], the four Islamic caliph's are represented. These are the first four successors of Muhammed: Abu Bakr, Umar, Othman, and Ali.

The Reverse gives the name of Shahrukh, Tamerlane's son, who was ruler at the time, and gives him the title of "sultan al azam", which basically means "highest authority".

Also on the reverse is the place of mint: "Lar", which is the city of Lar in the county Laristan, located in modern southern Iran. Lastly on the reverse the date is given, which is the Islamic year AH 828, roughly 1424/5.
