Royal Canadian Mint - This engraved and painted set includes three coins. On the first coin, Fu Xing, god of blessings, gazes to the left, holding a baby and a scroll. The background is accented with images of bats—whose pronunciation sounds like blessings. On the second, Lu Xing, god of prosperity, gazes serenely at the viewer, holding a gold lantern and a jeweled staff. The background also features two stylized stag deer, whose pronunciation sounds like deer. The third coin features Shou Xing, god of longevity. He smiles toward the right side of the image, holding a peach in one hand and a cane in the other, with a crane in the background. The peach and the crane both symbolize longevity.

The RCM is usually photo-shopping-embellishing the product on display. Particularly colored coins. Beware.

I posted several examples over the years, such as:

The desperate RCM hits an all new low. What does this have to do with Canada? It looks like dollar store junk.

With a mintage of 588, I'm certain these coins will sell out. RCM only need to sell these coins in jewelry and gift store where the Chinese tourists go.

However, I won't buy them based on the artist's rendering.

The RCM often starts out using renderings to illustrate new coins and then adds actual photos later.

Also, this set is not due to start shipping until December, they may not have any actual production-run coins to image at this point.

Good point Commems. But maybe the RCM needs to get better software packages to render these images.

Our engineering team is able to produce 3D renderings of devices that haven't been manufactured yet BUT we are able to apply material properties - pixelated images in this case or surface finishes that are consistent with the final product. All they have to care about is mostly 2D stuff so with the current software technologies available there is no justification for promoting cartoon images anymore.
