Seems to be a beautiful coin, particularly the reverse. The obverse concerns me with what looks like hairlines(?). No zoomed in pics from the seller. Any thoughts/education on what is going on there much appreciated!

This is not what an orginal au-53 coin looks like. Run Forest Run!. Unfortunately, the TPG decided that the cleaning wasn't obnoxious enough to trigger a details grade. You are spot on about the hairlines on the obverse. The deemed it to be market acceptable but you will have a hard time selling it if you ever wish to do so. It's very common to see this happen with the seated series. Truth is they probably dropped it a point or two as a penalty for the cleaning.

I have to agree. This coin looks like it had scurvy and was scrubbed to get rid of the bruises, which only exacerbated its poor appearance. It's just not right.

The obverse looks like it has been cleaned, with hairlines quite obvious. I think that it should have gone into a "details" holder.

This is not a rare type, especially in AU. I'd pass on this one.

Here is an up close of the obverse of that coin:

Get to know NGC certification checker. It is online or they have an app. They have high-res images of all coins certified by them (I'm not sure about the earlier graded coins.) With that said, I purchased a beautiful, perfect and original Bust coin but it had a crummy image like this one that made it look like it was harshly cleaned. So YMMV

I thought it was me, but I couldve sworn those hairlines would make this a details coin. The reverse not nearly as bad. Thanks for all of the kind help!
