Four extremely rare -raw- 3cs have hit ebay in the last couple days. Two from our friends GSC and two from another seller.

They are just too perfect not to set off my radar, but I wanted other opinions...

#'s 3 & 4 BOTH have same open top D in UNITED but two different dates listed as business strike? I cry foul on last two. GSC...are they "reliable" as a vendor? I have looked at some of their other items in past, now have to think fakes! Not sure @ 1 & 2?

My vote is genuine but harshly cleaned (look at the obverse hairlines) and also dipped. Quite unattractive, and almost certainly worse in hand.

Looks mid AU details, slightly weakly struck at the center. Does not show signs of clash. The topmost star point is in the correct position midway between the lower serif and inner curve of the last S in STATES.

Reverse shows lots of Strike Doubling around the stars and a nasty gouge at K3.

The open D is not a problem. The hub used for the business strike dies was broken at the top of the D so it SHOULD have an open top. But the surfaces are bad and there is a odd weakness in the lettering, a strange "mushyness". Note especially the E in states. The III and the the arrows on the reverse are also "mushy". I think it is fake.

I don't seen anything that immediately says fake from the pictures. It has been scrubbed, so it is best to avoid anyway.

Yes, TC, if this is what's in the market, I'm glad mine is a straight graded XF45 in PCGS holder.
