(updated, grabbed wrong links)

Four extremely rare -raw- 3cs have hit ebay in the last couple days. Two from our friends GSC and two from another seller.

They are just too perfect not to set off my radar, but I wanted other opinions...

1871 proof - the reverse, especially the III just looks off.

Dammingly enough the images had to be upsized to match the other coins... here is the original

I cannot pick if this is fake or not when asked to do so from pictures alone. Need to be familiar with die varieties and date alterations for this series.
XRF testing and accurate weight measurement would help.

The die polishing lines in the reverse to the left of the outermost berry on the branch above "III" appear to be present, a diagnostic.
That's the good news.

The bad news is the die crack seen on almost all known examples running from rim through the star at K7 up to the crescent is NOT present.

This die crack is present on business strikes AND proofs alike.

To me, that suggests extremely strongly 1) counterfeit, 2) tooling/polishing, or 3) photo alteration that thought the die crack was a "scratch" and covered it up.

Also, GSC doesn't knowingly sell counterfeits and people have reported no issue with returns. They are notorious for photos taken to make the coins look their best. Think making that 99 year old lady in the newspaper article look 20.

Agree, never take GSC's pics at face value.
