Looking for comments on this newly acquired 1835 East India Company UNC coin. This is the "thin lettering" "R.S." version.

How rare is it in this condition?

Excellent strike, clean fields, attractive minor toning, never cleaned or dipped. I think this would still stay at a 63 simply because of the cheek abrasions.

Really lovely example. I like it.

My thoughts exactly.

Krause lists the value of the 'RS' variety as about 40% over other varieties in UNC for 1935.

I need to know a little more -
What does the 'RS' mean?

Should be worth at least a hundred bucks.

Lovely coin. Did you get this graded?

If not, you should.

Nice looking coin, valuable as long as it is genuine. This coin has been target for forgery for quite some time and I am always concerned when MS examples are presented for authentication.

Do you have access to binocular microscope at the very minimum of 30 X (preferably higher)? If you do, please check the area shown in the magnified image of the RS. There appear to be striations that run in several different directions some at right angles to one another. Are they all raised features (elevated above the field) or incuse? Are there both raised and incuse stria that cross? Look for indications of priority in those cases. Do they make logical sense for example of die stria crossed by post strike damage?

Next focus on the non-radial striations that run inward diagonally to the left when viewed from the lower edge. Are they all solid lines or are there voids along the path? This applies in particular to raised not incuse examples.
