Hi all,

I am trying to figure out the difference between a KM 439 and 440. The coin in question is a 1955 20 Centavos and it is listed in both, but with different values. There is no difference in the descriptions.. nothing about different element placement or anything. Does anyone know how to tell the difference? Maybe I'm just missing something totally obvious. The listed size is the same on both but does not list a weight for either one.

The source of my confusion is 2008 Standard Catalog of World Coins, 1901-2000, page 1437. Is it ok to copy and paste that section here to show the problem, or would that be some kind of copyright violation?

Thanks for any help!

I looked the two up on Krause's online guide (has pictures for both coins). It looks like the eagle is slightly smaller on the 440. Here are the links but you must have a login with them to view the pages.

I believe it has to do with the obverse. Below are pics from numismaster for pics of both KM439 & 440

Thank you both! The snake is different, as well. Looks like the wee beastie is a 439!
