When I was younger, I kept every penny I got. I couldn't afford to keep every nickel or higher... Just the 'special' ones.
Nowadays, I can afford to keep every copper penny I get, and for giggles, every nickel I get. I have wised up and don't keep zincs anymore, unless one catches my attention with some sort of "eye appeal".
I can sit on coins worth .07 each, at a cost of .05 each, or I can hoard little dollar coins and sit on .07 each at the cost of 1.00 each! Even quarters are worth .07 each! I'll sit on the nickels...
Edit: I need to clarify. I DO NOT hoard change by buying it up! I just empty my pockets in the evening and sort the coins into buckets... keepers and circulators. Just to make it clear that I don't go out and buy rolls of nickels for keeping! I probably have 15-20 bux in nickels hoarded, and this hoard is about 5 years old...
