I got this 1976-S mint Silver Kennedy half dollar that on the reverse has another stamp of the Statue of Liberty, "Double Golden Anniv." "1886-1986" Check out the photos. Anyone ever seen this, know the history or where it came from. It is a good clean stamp.

Someone else has found one of these before, but I cannot find the thread. I am pretty sure it is a novelty piece sold doing the 100 year anniversary of the Status of Liberty. Most definitely created post-mint; that is, the US mint did not issue that half-dollar this way.

jbuck - Ya I found the post but that was on a 1997 Ike. This is a new one. for sure post mint, but it is a very good strike, one hit and almost perfectly level and centered. The thread you are talking about is here: http://goccf.com/t/23573 does anyone know if it sold on ebay?

Thanks for the link! I do not know how many different ways I tried to search for that thread. I forgot it was on an Ike, so that might have thrown me off track.

Yes, it has the same stamp. It was an auction that graceoutcast found on ebay. Since that ebay link is dead, I am not sure if it sold or not. He might be able to answer, if he ever sees this thread!

I searched a lot on it during the first thread but no success.

But one day, someone will probably show up here and tell us all about them!
