Ran across this coin today and I believe it's a D over S. You can see the outline of the S in the 3rd pictures. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I am unable to detect an outline of S, due to too much corrosion on the surface.
Rest in Peace

That really is pushing it, I'd have to say no. Most all 1944D have that bit at top left, think I read it was a broken punch. This spot IS where the S moves north BUT inside the area you still have left would show something of the center S curve. Most D/S are misdiagnosed as D/D anyway.

I can see this as an S:

Is that what you're seeing? Like Crazyb0 said, if anything it could be a D/D north. I can also see this:

Or, it could be nothing and we're seeing what we want to see.

Throw it in a two by two and put it back in the collection. Or soak it in acetone for a Looooong time to see if the grime comes off.

I don't think so. The original S punch is primarily UNDER the D, not extending well into the field above it. It is the TOP of the S, effaced in the middle, that shows above the D. This is shown quite well in Crazyb0's enlargement - a short pointed shank sitting on top of the D to the left, and the blob in the field to the right, both remnants of the top curve of the S now polished away.

Just something on the surface of the coin. Not an OM.
