And of course we know the Best Buy story is true since it was on the Internet.

Remember, this is as of now just an unverified story without any type of documentation. It well could be true but it is also quite possible that there was no arrest, perhaps just some sort of exaggeration of a minor dispute.

BTW - are Churchill crowns legal tender (for 25 pence) or not? I've heard it either way.

As far as I know, all British crowns from 1818 to 1965 are still legal tender for 25p and have not been demonetised.

I pick up $2's at the bank and spend them all over town, never have any issues. Servers in cafes love getting them as tips along with President $1 coins.

I regularly spend cull Indian cents (I have rolls of them) and have had many funny incidents over the years. Once I was standing my ground with a checkout gal at a supermarket when the guy behind me offered to replace the cent with his own to keep the line moving. More than once I've tried to explain to a checkout person that this is an " Indian cent" and been told that the store "does not accept coins from India". It's fun because I'm old and like to annoy people.

No offense intended, but did you?

No, it was not a legitimate news source. One link was to a blog entry and the other was a poorly narrated YouTube video from a guy who likes $2 bills.

Ahh, now that is more like it!

I wonder if he sued, and if he did wouldn't it be great if Best Buy paid him off in $2 bills? This was way back in 2005 so I imagine the lawsuit would have been settled by now if there was one.

Generally speaking, snopes.com will have mention of something like this if it were fake news. I saw nothing that matched.
