On the reverse of this coin you find the year of ascension to the throne of the sultan : 1327AH (=1909, the year of ascension of Muhammad V). On the same side you find an Arabic "3", which is the reign year. So: 1909 is the first year of reign, 1910 the second, 1911 the third. Most modern Ottoman coins (18th, 19th and begin of 20th century coins) are dated this way. On the obverse the toughra is depicted, a calligraphy of the sultan's name. Beneath the toughra you can find the denomination: 5 qirsh By the way: this coin was minted at the Heaton Mint, Birmingham. Report this Post to the Staff
