Before this gets posted ing Buy/Sell or want Area - I need clarification.

I have a request to locate a fift cent and a one dollar planchet.

Do these exist? would a regular dealer have them?
What would the cost range be?
Thankx

Yes they do exist and I have seen some in dealers shops. I currently have a cent, dime and quarter Type II planchet. These all have the upset rim as opposed to type I which are called blanks and are the ones that have just been punched from the metal strips.

In the 2004 RedBook pg. 326 there is a price guide for different planchets and other errors.

what is the difference between Planchet and a BLANK
A blank is what he asked for & I thought they were both the same

From "The Authorative Numismatic Glossary"

BLANK
A disc of metal intended to become a coin. A "blank" is not a PLANCHET until it goes through the UPSETTING MILL which creates the raised rims. "Blanking" is done by shearing blanks from metal strips - much like a cookie cutter.

PLANCHET
The blank metal disc with upset rims struck by DIES to create a coin.

I think it was ND that posted this before, but here it is again.

The email I received says he wants BLANKS
I have sent him a clarification note. will have to wait
But I believe he wants blanks

Are these considered error coins?
Are these sold like Planchets?

I would say yes they are error coins. Blanks are a little tougher to find because they have missed the upsetting mill and the die press, where planchets have only missed going thru the die press.

They are sold the same way. Check ebay, they usually have several of both listed. Under coins, search planchets.

I would advise that, if you look for them on ebay, be sure that there are good pictures in the auctions. Let's face it, many ebay sellers do not always know how to describe their items.
Rest in Peace
