My son and I have found all of the Canadian nickels in the modern era (ie, since the nickels became round) except for the 1967 (none found) and 1970 (one found).

I know that the 1967 is the centennial nickel and that the 1970 is a low mintage year, but I am wondering if any collectors in the US or Canada have had more luck searching for them.

It's hard for us in the U.S to get rolls of Canadian coins.

I have not searched rolls for a long time no, but when I did the Canadian coins were more common when I lived up north. Now I rarely see one in change at all.

I live in Canada, and a few years ago, I used to coin roll hunt nickels. I found 1967 ones to be pretty common, but I have only ever found three from 1970.

Some other rare ones are the 2000 P (P is under the queen, most 2000s are blank), the 2001 blank (most have a P), and the 2006 blank (2006 P and 2006 RCM logo are common). These are all circulating coins.

Also, don't forget the 1977 low vs high (the second 7 is in line with the first 7, or is higher than the first 7).

Good luck.

We don't get rolls of Canadian nickels. We just collect out of US circulation. Since we are in Ohio, we do get some Canadian nickels in boxes. The '67 and the '70 are the only years we have not been able to get at least two of since the nickel went from the eight sided design to the round design. Of course we don't get many of the older design since that has been changed since the early '60s.

Jon - Your question perked my interest so I did a little searching of my Canadian finds. Usually average 10-20 per 50 roll hunts and guessing around 1,600 found.

Grand total of 3 - 1967 and 0 - 1970. Still have not found a 2016 or 2017 yet

I also live in a Northern state and as a cashier I see several come through even had a couple silver quarters. I think my best find is a 1949 nickel and I think a penny from about the same time but I haven't looked through my stuff in a while.
