I have 4 Lewis and Clark coins that I won at an auction with heaps of other different coins.
They don't look like proofs and are:.....
All look uncirculated.

Monticello - 2006 P
Peace medal -2004 P
Keelboat nickle 2004 P
Bison 2005 D

Nope. I would keep them if they are in superb condition, but they are easy to find in circulation, even in very high grade.

Ok thanks,
They do look fully uncirculated but I thought that was only possible with proof coins?

You are missing the 2005 Bison of the 5 designs for these 2004-2006 Jefferson nickels. the 2006 being the first year of our current design. They surely must be uncirculated and are packaged as such to be marketed in one more way by a coin wholesaler.
About 2/3 down this page you'll see the mintages. https://www.coincommunity.com/us_ni...efferson.asp

Hey, for the amount of 20 cents being tied up there, you might re-gift them to a YN in Australia if they don't do anything for you. Over here we have plenty. Only well struck, completely nick free examples and a few varieties fetch any premium.

and yes, I would imagine you don't see them in Australia.

I like these and put away a couple of sets myself.
And to answer your question, yes they can be completely uncirculated without being proof coins.
The US Mint releases both sets. Uncirculated and Proof coins for us collectors.

The 2005 Bison nickels were so popular back in 2005 that with all the roll and bag sets that the Mint sold, close to 10% of the entire mintage was sold directly to collectors. Close to 90 million Unc coins out there in hoards.
