Well, I hit up 3 banks and only found $9.00 in halves!
They all made a comment about a person that buys up all the halves. And that this person went through earlier this AM. Apparently he buys all the customer rolls, as opposed to ordering boxes.
So I got his sloppy seconds this AM. And very little of it at that.
The good news is that out of those 18 coins, 2 were 40%. Both 67s, and one was fairly nice looking.
So, it seems I have to make a strategy to work around the other silver hunter in town. Hopefully his habit is to buy up on Mondays. If so, I can cut him off at the pass on Friday evenings. Either that, or just straight up order a box. I just don't have that kind of dough right now.
The clads I got today were all horrible looking. Most didn't even have any reeding left.
On a funny note, one of the tellers I got coins from today bounced them off her counter before committing to selling them to me. I thought for sure she was going to catch on to the 40% I could see in her hand. She didn't... After bouncing it and hearing a little different sound, she did a double take on it, checking the date. I suppose she was informed about the 64s, but not the 40%s. She definately would have kept a 90% for herself.
There's still silver out there. Just plenty of folks looking for it. Dave

Not many banks carry halves in my area. I ordered a box twice. First was sweet with 7-40% and 1-90% and 2-proofs. Second was a huge ZERO. nlp

I stopped at my bank today and got a box of pennies and as usual asked if she had any halves...she says she has $40 worth but I only had $15 in cash left so I bought one roll. I went out to my truck and cracked open that roll and saw a solid roll of silver 1964 JFKs! I ran back in and made a withdrawal for $30 to buy the rest and got another full roll of 40%ers and 2 rolls of clad. Not a bad day at all

"...and saw a solid roll of silver 1964 JFKs!" Very nice! That's about $240 melt value! Maybe I'll check the local banks here.

Well I went back to the same bank which I found 3 40%ers. I bought all they had, which was $50 and I found one 1969. All 1980's have black marks. X's on some. Pink Marks on some. Writing on some. I thought they were checked, but I found couple of silvers, so apperantly not.

Personal collections fall into the hands of those that do not understand their significance, and thus emerge once again into circulation. Considering the growing awareness of the value of silver, it is amazing that we find any. And yet, we do. That may not last. But for now, there is indeed silver out there. Congratulations on finding those full rolls!

All I can say is that it is a TORTUREOUS ENDEAVOR indeed !...with hills and very low valleys punctuated with bouts of drought, darkness, and depression, but at unexpected times slathered in pure ecstasy that leaves you jumping up & down for joy!...
