2008 marks the centenary of the signing of the Quarantine Act in 1908 - the legislation that provided the basis for human, plant and animal quarantine in Australia.

The Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) detector dog (the beagle) is depicted as being on-duty, protecting Australia from pests and diseases by detecting food, plants, animals and their products in passengers bags. Our nation is represented in a luggage shape with travel/luggage stickers identifying the key hazard and protection issues for AQIS.

This coin will be released on May 1st and is presented in a colour pack. The release price is AUD12.95

I have ordered 15 of these and 6 have already gone, so if you would like one of the coins I have left, let me know, you can have them at cost plus postage.

No these will not be going into circulation. The Centenary of Scouting $1 will be released into circulation after May 1.

thats pretty stupid, quarantine is way more important than scouting, so the quarantine one should be realeased to circulation.

Learjet do you know where these are for sale, in shops etc.?

Any coin shop should have them. Try Bigfella at Newcastle coins if you don't have a coin shop near you.

Scouting is probably more popular with most than quarantine. When I first heard of the Q dollar I thought "huh?"

Glad I wasn't the only one. Not on my shopping list.

Does anyone else think they are scraping the bottom of the barrel now? I mean good coin design is one thing, but where do we draw the quality v quantity line?
There were 12 different $1 designs from the RAM last year, not counting each individual mint mark coin. And only 1 of these for circulation, the APEC. (Someone please correct me if the MoR was issued for circulation) Does this seem a little extreme?

We don't have to buy them all. Well actually dollar set collectors DO have to buy them all, but that's the price you pay for wanting to collect the lot.

I collect some dollars, like the Coat Of Arms and a few others but not every design.

well scouting probably is more popular, but do we NEED scouting? No, do we need quarantine, yes.

Yeh theres a coin shop up town wihch I've wanted to go have a look at, when I tried they were closed for loong weekend. My dad had a look after work one day, he said they've got heaps, so I'll see if these are in yet.
