These coins turn up surprisingly commonly in mint state with near full red mint luster.
Obviously, they never circulated.
Another characteristic is the weak strike on tbe lions' faces.
Same also seems to happen quite often with Quarter Annas of other dates of British India even extending into the reign of George V1.
Perhaps another in the CCF can offer a reason why this is so.
