1857 One Quarter Anna, East India Find! Grade?

Needless to say I am pretty happy, but what would this grade as? Could it possibly be an XF 40? Any help is greatly appreciated! Report this Post to the Staff

Many times, these are not struck particularly well... I have seen UNC examples with 'mushy' lions faces... Hogarth Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 735 Posts	Posted 08/10/2017 11:27 am Yes, I would agree with Peter, UK Good Fine (US F18-F20? I'm never sure of the conversion). JD is right about the lion's faces on these. I have an 1835 (attached) on which, although well preserved enough to be showing some residual lustre, faces still display some flattening, or are a little 'mushy' as described. sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 08/11/2017 06:09 am These coins turn up surprisingly commonly in mint state with near full red mint luster. Obviously, they never circulated. Another characteristic is the weak strike on tbe lions' faces. Same also seems to happen quite often with Quarter Annas of other dates of British India even extending into the reign of George V1. Perhaps another in the CCF can offer a reason why this is so.
