I have seen a tentative of 2018 Royal Mint coin releases which listed x6 different £2 coins and x2 50 pence coins along with thoughts about x4 Beatrix Potter 50 pence coins. So on a site I posted what I heard with themes of the coins in a thread and my post was edited since there is an embargo from The Royal Mint about such listings. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I've heard of embargoes, I once got sent a questionnaire about likes and dislikes and posted it on a forum and some Royal Mint person then got angry with me about it. I've not heard anything about next year's coins, they used to release this stuff around now, but in the past few years they've been much later.

They're dragging these Beatrix Potter coins out too much... Do we need 4 more?

It seems to me that the four £2 RAF Centenary/Spitfire/Vulcan/Sea King will be part of a set. My question: Why didn't they include an aircraft from WWI in the series? Will the RAF coin show one?
I don't understand the RM's fascination with Beatrix Potter either.

The fascination is that they sell well....

It seems that The Royal Mint is slowly slipping into the issuing habits of the RCM and the RAM. That's sad. If they are going to do these things, they should be issued into general circulation in base metals, so the whole public can appreciate or criticize. At least, the Mints would be in a better position to introduce kids to coin collecting / numismatics, with face value general circulation issues.

Are there any famous RAF planes from WWI to put on a coin?
They do tend to release them to circulation sometimes that I make one a lower mintage:
Jemima Puddle-Duck 2,100,000 Squirrel Nutkin 5,000,000 150th Anniversary of Beatrix Potter 6,900,000 Mrs Tiggy-Winkle 8,800,000 Peter Rabbit 9,600,000
Why not an even amount of each coin?

Sel, all of the 50p and £2's in Ken's list are expected to be circulating. Whilst we may not like the Potter 50p's due to them being opportunist, they are attracting new collectors into the market. Royal Mint do however produce far too much NCLT nowadays - marketed as "investment". When I first started collecting if I asked for British decimal coins for sale very often I got a "what are you bothering with them for" attitude from the dealers - Now 20 years later they are best sellers.

That especially applies to kids, because that is what they first understand, when it comes to coins collecting. For kids, it has to be unsophisticated, and readily accessible.

If you're going to have a 100th anniversary of the RAF, have one coin with a plane from 100 years ago. It's ridiculous to have the Spitfire or Vulcan on there. But yes, I agree, the mint has reached the point of pumping things out so much that it's not so interesting any more.

For the RCM, the "embargo" is in effect because it releases new info to their "Master's Club" of premium VIP customers; those customers sign an agreement not to disclose Masters Club material to outsiders. If The Royal Mint has a similar arrangement, then yes, they probably do have an embargo on special premium-grade news.

The "embargo" (if you can call it that) is because news of next years new issues leaked - before they were officially announced by the mint.
