The thickness on the AMER, IN American seems very thick. Is this a DDO? If it is is it documented anywhere?

to the family!!

It seems because of the thickness of letters to be both a greas-filled strike through AND VLDS deterioration. When dies wear, metal flows to the outside...notice how close al reverse details are to the rim. These details stretch and widenas this happens. Also, after many polishings the depth of detail becomes shallow which also causes letters like this to widen and seem weaker.
