Hey all,

I picked up a set of BU Rosies (46 - 77 PDS) from the coin store today. The only problem was that they were in a PVC book, and about 5-7 of them have the "green goo" damage from the PVC holders.

I did some research on the internet and someone recommended using rubbing alcohol to clean them off.

Do you all have any suggestions for getiing the goo off?

I have never "dipped" a coin, but this set was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I figured I could try and clean up the gooey ones, move them to a Dansco and voila, I have a great set of Rosies.

Thanks for your input!

Acetone, pure acetone will do the trick. It is very flammable so be careful and make sure you are in a well ventilated area.

Be warned that the green goo may have already done its damage and left pitting, nothing can be done about that. At the very least, removing the green goo with acetone will prevent any further damage.

Thanks for the tips and the link! The set of 46 - 64 rosies cleaned up VERY well, there are a few that look like the damage has been done, but over all, the coins are clean, undamaged and have some good mint luster still.

have a good day!
