Quote: St. Helena is a dot island in the Pacific ocean west of Africa. I assume you meant Atlantic ocean.

Quote: Any coin of any vintage with two prominent lions in motif = 2 points. I think that is the best I can do:

Yeah, Atlantic Ocean (it was late last nite, and I was tired) Quote: (these 1821 coins from St Helena are pretty common) If they are *that* common I'm 'pretty' sure jbuck will post one, and Dorado and the rest of the Dedicated Darksiders, maybe three.. Seriously, it's better to see something than nothing. So please note the following points adjustments. 1)- any metal is ok for 1821. 2)- any St. Helena coin even of modern vintage (is that an oxymoron?) is ok. Carry on

Right now, there are about 30 of these 1821 half pennies from St Helena on sale on ebay. Compare that to dated coins from 1497, for example -- I keep looking for one of those ever couple of weeks on ebay, but never seem to find anything. .

Quote: Any other 'dot island' coin from the 19th. century = 5 points. Pretty sure that Straights Settlements should count: added: Quote: Compare that to dated coins from 1497, for example -- I keep looking for one of those ever couple of weeks on ebay, but never seem to find anything. @pepactonius, if you have the wallet, I see three different gold coins from 1497 AD on ma-shops.

Guernsey from the Channel Islands; at 25 square miles I think it would count as a dot. Also do the lions count in addition? (Is this 5 points or 7?)

The problem with ma-shops is that most of their dealers are in Europe, and I don't like to import expensive items into the US. BTW, I'm wondering which of the following islands are considered "dot islands", and which are just "small islands": - Crete (1900) - Jersey (1870) - Guernsey (1885) - Danish West Indies (1859) - Azores (1880) - Haiti (1895) - Puerto Rico (1896) - Ionian Islands (1857)

Quote: which of the following islands are considered "dot islands", and which are just "small islands": - Crete (1900) too large- Jersey (1870) Channel Islands ok- Guernsey (1885) - Danish West Indies (1859) more of an island chain than a single 'dot'- Azores (1880) too large- Haiti (1895) way too large- Puerto Rico (1896) waay too large- Ionian Islands (1857) accepted becauze I really hope to see a coin from thereQuote:
Straights Settlements is a bunch of separate but conjoined political entities occupying a large part of a larger island. Quote: do the lions count Those are rampant, not standing. An effort point for 'close enuf'... but don't push yer luck on this one.

Since you're allowing silver 1821's, here's my Participation entry for this round. Straight out of my Cull Type set, the 1821 Capped Bust Dime (and yea, just barely see the 21!)

Would Prince Edward Island count as a dot island? It is smaller than Crete, but it still may be too big. (If it does not count, I will try to find something worth two points.)

Love the Ionian Islands coin. Never knew such an entity existed until I found an early version overstruck on a Venetian copper. In contrast with your coin, mine is almost unidentifiable. Here is my junkbox contribution.
