Nice entry, J1M! In the spirit of the contest, let's try to stick to contemporary coins, not commemoratives. As a hint, don't forget about Edward VIII's coinage from India and Africa, or the ephemeral WWII occupation "states" like Vichy France!  |

I'm gonna go with these. The Ike dollar 1975 Type 1. It was a low mintage, from what I can figure our was only minted in Philly from Feb-Apr of 1975 before the switch to Type 2 came out of THAT mint. San Fran Silvers were always a Type 2 and Denver produced more of the Type 1's than Philly. Quote:

Sweet coins so far in this contest.  Here is my entry: A Prutah from the dual rule of Aretas IV and Syllaeus in 9 BC (Nabataean Kingdom). The mint is Petra (Jordan) and the attribution is Meshorer 43. For sure I do, along with a coin that I seem to recall was only issued for a month while the minting city was under siege, but this Prutah was fresh on my mind after getting help with an attribution from Bob and Ron. Alright, I guess that's time. With a sub-1 year ruler from Nabatea, I think Spence wins this one, with January1May coming in second with just over a year. Vichy France existed for four years, and Ike dollars were made for two years. Take it away Spence! |

Steve, the Type 1 Ikes of Philly and Denver were only in full production for about ywo months, look at the population estimates in RedBook. |
