It turns out I have more coins than I thought received as gifts (including Secret Santa). I have to choose one and so I choose this 1979-S Jefferson nickel proof I received from Crazyb0. The toning is fantastic and, fortunately, I was able to capture it fairly accurately in these pics!

Good idea @MC! I will definitely have an entrant for this edition.

I received this coin a Great Britain "Cartwheel" twopence, 1797 from My Wife's Aunt before she passed away along with several others. I saw this coin on the first page of this challenge far after the challenge started, I think I could have won that first challenge if I saw it when this game started. This is one of my oldest coins.

Don't think I'll be able to get images of some of my better coins I got as gifts, but these were given to me from an estate I helped liquidate. The family insisted I take a "payment" of 10% for a $9,000 collection. These are my two favorites

Some of you might have seen the recent thread about a Russian collector of American coins that several American CCF regulars decided to send some of their cheap coins to.

As it happens, when I myself was new on CCF - some six years and several months ago - even though I didn't start a special thread about the gaps in my collection (...OK, I kind of did), a few really nice CCF members decided to send me assorted American coins for my collection anyway.

One of those members was jeffrose, whose box with lots of 2x2s, many with pristine-looking coins, I treasure to this day...

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish! Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

I wanted to post the 1955-P cent, which was so incredibly shiny BU red that back when I got it I had to carefully look at it to be sure that it wasn't the doubled die: the luster kept getting in the way.

However, as it happened, trying to photograph a lustrous red Wheat cent through 2x2 plastic with a flash smartphone camera resulted in weird-looking orange-tinted pictures that didn't look much like the actual coin.
I might post those pictures some day as well, but for this challenge, I chose the nearly as pristine - and arguably more beautiful - 1959-P dime with mottled toning; I thought my photos would give it justice better.

Let me put it that way: I'm only not putting those excellent coins in my 7070* because I think doing so would be a dishonor to the incredible care of their previous caretaker.
(In other words: I don't know what it takes to keep a Wheat cent brilliant red over nearly sixty years, but it has to have been quite a lot, and so long as the coins still look pristine - which they somehow indeed still do, even after six years at my home - I'm not willing to open the 2x2s for any reason. Just don't want the magic to disappear.)

...Sorry for the rant.

Anyway, what I meant was that this coin (together with many others) was a gift from jeffrose, for which I'm really grateful to him.

So I thought that I should post it here - I think it's really beautiful, and the mottled toning makes it especially pretty.

*) Funnily enough, the LWC in my 7070 is also from him - it just didn't come in a 2x2, and wasn't of such ludicrously high quality.
