"Ancient' is a decidedly vague term with parameters defined depending on how it is being applied. There are plenty of younger collectors who might easily construe a coin with a 1600's date as being 'ancient'. Don't even get me started about Millennial attitudes toward old pop-tarts like me with birth dates in the first half of the previous century.  Also, since there innumerable undenominated thaler-style coins within that chosen date range, I would like to add, as part of the winning criteria, that the newer the coin, the better. This is the best I've got that is large, new-ish, and not denominated. British double florin 1890  A pretty famous example for being one of the few later Victorian coins without an explicit denomination; merchants simply assumed it to be the new Jubilee crown (5 shillings) Despite it only being worth 4 shillings. It thus earned the name "Barmaid's Ruin" for causing significant losses to bars that tendered it as a crown. |

Ok here is an Irish ha'penny from the late 18th Century: It is big enough to have some heft, but is not in great condition to be sure. And no denomination!   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
