I don't own this one anymore, so not a qualifying entry. I just like it. 1721 Ore struck on top of a 1718-19 S.M. Daler  Fascinating plate money, by the way! The only thing I can think of that comes close in terms of size and being metal would either be an ancient Roman Aes Signatum, or a Japanese Oban-kin. Both cost well over $10,000 so no danger of me owning one. |

Okay this is what I got... 1746 2ore  and since you wanted to see something big... same coin with my biggest coin (1kg silver dragon) as a back drop   maybe .0001 of a point for creativity... ? |

@Finn235, the plate money is not cheap, but it is a small fraction of those other items. I got it from a Swedish dealer (not daler), so presumably they are relatively available.

oriole: it's just shy of 4" diam. and 1/2 inch thick. It's 1Kg or 2.2 lbs in mass.. if you're going to flip and play heads or tails this is coin to do it with... :D

Well I'll be a son of a copperhead. Never expected to see one of these museum pieces on CCF, let alone two in one thread- ! This is my favorite 'coin', without a doubt. I feel very fortunate to own one. Example shown is a half daler dated 1717. I purchased it at a public estate sale awhile back. Enjoy the pics.   |

Amazing! I didn't expect to see another plate money either!
I'm still not 100% clear... did people actually carry these around to buy bread and cheese, or were these stacked up in banks to give backing to banknotes?
