Was the site down last night? I spent about an hour trying to post my challenge, and the site kept timing out. This is a 2 pfennig from Frankfurt (presumably am Main). Frankfurt was in operation from 1866-79 according to Krause. Post your coin from the shortest-lived mint. Reference to a mint is to a city, not a building. If there is a break in operation (e.g., New Orleans), and the mint reopens in the same century (ditto), the length of operation of both terms is counted. Further questions will be addressed as they arise.

Hmm not sure how to attack this challenge as mint longevity isn't something that I typically track. Until I find something better, here is a Pine Tree Shilling issued by the Massachusetts colony mint in 1652. This mint was in operation between 1652 and 1682.

Can this be a currently active mint?

I have two NOLA coins, but no reverse images. I will take no points. This is just to pass the time. The coin on the right... The coin on the left...

Technically, the challenge doesn't actually say how much of the coin has to be left This 2 kopek coin of Paul I of Russia, dated 1798, was made at the Anninsky mint, which closed that year - having opened in 1789, only nine years earlier. Alas, I only have (approximately) half of the coin, which is in fact how I got it (from a bargain bin, IIRC). I've been told that at the time such a half would serve as a surrogate 1 kopek coin; I'm not sure if that's true, but it sounds plausible enough, and the cut looks old. (I have a few other, more complete, coins from Anninsky mint, but this piece was the first I found, and I decided that it was neat enough to post. I sincerely apologize for the lack of photo quality.)
