I don't have any ancients, so the oldest I can do is this Byzantine coin that dates to 1160-1164. The emperor and the saint on the reverse are both shown armored and carrying swords.

Ike in uniform (well, you see his hat). Does this count as battle garb?

I don't have any wartime ancients either.

And to be honest, is Charles here fighting or just prancing around with a sword?

The sword suggests he is about to kick someone's butt though. Yes in 1635 you went into war fully wigged and wearing a lace collar! And not forgetting that crown in case some jumped up wannabe on the otherside forgot who they were messing with

I think the way @Arkie wrote the rule for this round, we get to include those coins with the sovereign posing in his armor, rather than actually getting ready to fight.

Just to make sure I have another horse in this race (), there is little doubt about this one:

Duchy of Lorraine, double denier, undated from the reign of Theobald II (1303-1312).

Any extra credit for a horse dressed for battle?

OK, let's stay with the military theme.

Post your coins with weapons: daggers, swords, arrows, spears, lances, maces, guns, bombs, cannons, cannonballs. Largest number of weapons on a coin wins. Ties will be decided by rock-paper-scissors type rules (cannonballs win over arrows, for example).

So the last coin I posted would get 2 points, one for the lance obverse, one for the sword reverse. But it would be beaten by @keith's coin that has a sword obverse and two more on the coat of arms reverse.
