I've had this idea for several months. I apologize if it's too weird. I apologize if it's too complicated. Maybe I just wanted a convenient excuse to take a pic of that one coin. I'm using it anyway.  Sultanate of Delhi, Suri dynasty Muhammad Adil Shah (1554-5) AE paisa, dated 961 AH = 1554 AD 21x20 mm, 20.51 grams cf. Numista 57874 (might not be this exact variety) For context: a US nickel is 21 mm and 5 grams. This coin is about the same size as a nickel (actually slightly smaller), but weighs four times as much (actually a little more). In other words, this coin is very thick. Here's an edge-on pic (mildly blurry), to give you an idea...  Post your chunkiest coin! ...or, the chunkiest you can find, anyway. You're allowed to post a replacement better entry if you find one. Now, of course, there's really no good unit of "chunkiness". Thickness makes for a convenient proxy, but it's also inconvenient to measure. So, for this contest, we're using a proxy for thickness. Take the weight (in grams) and divide by the square of the largest diameter (in centimeters). The result is your chunkiness score. The higher the better. Examples: - a copper US cent gets a chunkiness score of 3.11/1.905^2=0.857 points - an ASE gets a chunkiness score of 31.1/4.06^2=1.887 points - the Suri paisa I posted above gets a chunkiness score of 20.51/2.1^2=4.65 points AFAIK it's possible to go even higher. I used to own High Relief (Piedfort) 1 oz Kangaroo and Kookaburra coins. Those coins will blow out your chunkiness score!

I think your calculator is giving you (3.97/2.2)^2 instead of 3.97/(2.2^2); in retrospect I should have made that clearer, but you could cross-check with my examples.

I think I will stand aside as like most people I am not a maths professor. In fact I flunked maths from Form 5 onwards (Thats Grade 10 Americans).
Perhaps a challenge where the IQ drops back into the lower 3 figures?

I keep forgetting that what I think of as completely trivial math (especially with a calculator) is often something that most other people do not find at all trivial. Just post a thick and/or dense coin, with weight and diameter figures, and I'll calculate it or you, I guess?

I have another 5 kopeks that might score higher, but I don't have the actual diameter noted, so I'll have to post it later if it's chunkier. For those who are math challenged, copy and past this into a Google search: w/(d^2) Replace w with the weight in grams and d with the diameter in cm (not mm) Edit: typo

Okay, this one's a bit chunkier. 1780 EM 5 kopeks  42.1g and 4.15cm 42.1/4.15^2= 3.61 chunkiness score
Out of curiosity, I calculated my lightest 5 kopeks and got 36.0/4.40^2=1.86 I also corrected a typo in my previous reply. I had my score as 3.78 instead of 3.48
