24 hours in, and if I didn't miscount, the results so far are as follows...
oriole - 7.35 points (full match) Joseph7420 - 4 points MontCollector - 4 points pepactonius - 4 points bd251 - 3 points Crazyb0 - 3 points Canadian coins - 3 points CollegeBarbers - 3 points Dorado - 3 points
Meanwhile, nobody had even gotten close to my intended reason for the bonus point countries.
I'll give you all a hint: you might have missed that one of the countries eligible for bonus points is Tannu Tuva. To the best of my knowledge, I'm not aware of any connection between Tannu Tuva and Italy.
[EDIT: one thing I did miscount is that it's been less than 24 hours; I miscalculated the time zone difference.]

I'm going to give it another shot. All of the countries you listed are or have been an independent state within a country? Thats all I have...if it's not that then Ill let someone else take a stab at it. You've peeked my curiosity. Thanks for the slight twist on the game, I'm enjoying it.

Well, @january, you are certainly being obscure and mysterious with these bonus points. All the more reason for us to try harder.

...why doesn't anyone want to participate?
I'll give you another hint: I considered including another country in the bonus points list (for the same reason as the others), but at the last moment decided not to. If I had included it (and the same coins were posted), a different coin would have been the current frontrunner.

So the other countries posted have been:
Russia Bhutan Bahamas Spitzbergen Ceylon, and Romania
if any of them were bonus countries, they would have received 2 points for getting main and bonus points, and presumably at least 1.4 points for being a bonus country.
So one of those above countries must have some connection to Tannu Tuva and the Venice group. The connection escapes me.

Paraguay, Seborga, Venice, Lombardy-Venetia, and Tannu Tuva all have issued one coin with the denomination of '15' written on them, and each of those coins were minted for only one year each (with Tannu Tuva's being made in 1934—the closest date to 1953). Is that their connection?
Spitzbergen also did the same, although that coin might actually count as a token. That could be the reason why that bonus country was removed.

You even guessed the country I removed correctly. (Don't recall why I actually removed it; maybe I thought it didn't fully count as a country.) To clarify somewhat, some of your extra details were not actually intended by me; I was just looking for "rare" types of this category, and did not check whether they were actually issued for just one year. The backstory: at some point, I decided to get at least one 15 cent coin from each country that made them. I already had Russia (in several forms), Romania, Mongolia, and Paraguay, and wanted to know what was left. So I checked Numista... Turned out that there were a few types from Bahamas - the type posted in this thread was, in fact, the one I ended up getting - as well as one type each from Venice, Lombardy-Venetia, and Tannu Tuva, all of them sufficiently rare that I was unlikely to ever obtain them. (I did not then count Seborga and Spitzbergen, though they would likely have fallen into the same category.) So the bonus point option was basically a hope that someone would actually have and post one of those rare 15 cent types from Venice, Lombardy-Venetia, or Tannu Tuva. I think I only added Seborga because I wanted people to post coins from there anyway. As I mentioned, I'm not sure why I didn't add Spitzbergen. In retrospect, I probably should have been clearer.

I was thinking the connection had to do with something about the coins being of the same values, and the only similar thing I could think of was with them being one-year types. But just looking at those coins' prices, they all seem pretty expensive!

Well, it's apparently been four days, and if - again - I didn't miscount, the results now look like this:
oriole - 7.35 points (full match) Joseph7420 - 4 points, and the tiebreaker MontCollector - 4 points pepactonius - 4 points (sadly) Dorado - 4 points bd251 - 3 points Crazyb0 - 3 points Canadian coins - 3 points CollegeBarbers - 3 points
I'm half tempted to give the prize to pepactonius anyway, but that would have been dishonest, because I have no idea whether any of the others had the same type and didn't want to post it.
So I guess oriole, with the full match, would have the next round...
